15 min Coach / feederAdvancedMovement

Use reflex-based short-step activation before a three-quarter-court swing volley and swing-volley rally.

Best for: players who reach a high mid-court ball but lose spacing before the swing volley and next exchange.

Goal

Activate with short steps, move under the high ball, strike a balanced swing volley and recover for a second ball.

Step by step

Your 15-minute practice

  1. 0–3 min

    Link activation and move-in

    • Use quick feet, then move to the swing-volley cone on the call.
    • Split before leaving the start box.
  2. 8 feeds · 4 min

    Add the high ball

    • Take eight looped feeds in the air.
    • Land balanced inside the contact zone.
  3. 7–11 min

    Recover for ball two

    • Move to the recovery cone after the swing volley.
    • Control the next feed through the middle.
  4. 10 patterns · 4 min

    Score ten patterns

    • Count deep swing volley and controlled second ball.
    • Aim for seven successes.

Remember

Three player cues

  • Activate, then read the height.
  • Meet the ball before it drops.
  • Recover for the next exchange.

Avoid these

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the activation box before the cue
  • Running through the airborne contact
  • Treating the swing volley as the end of the pattern

Keep the same purpose

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Hand-feed the high first ball and remove the second feed.

Make it harder

Vary the first-ball height so the player must choose swing volley or groundstroke before continuing live.

Keep it safe

Keep the forward landing and recovery zones clear and stop if the player cannot decelerate in balance.
