15 min Coach / feederAdvancedServe

Best for: players who can serve and move forward, and want to attack a high blocked return in the air.

Goal

Serve to create a higher return, recover forward and strike the next ball as a controlled swing volley.

  3. 03Ask the feeder to block a higher return into the marked zone.

Step by step

Your 15-minute practice

  1. 0–3 min

    Map the forward route

    • Serve at easy pace and move to the contact-zone cone.
    • Split before the return is struck.
  2. 3–7 min

    Use a predictable high return

    • Ask the feeder to block the ball high through the middle.
    • Take it in the air with a compact swing.
  3. 7–11 min

    Alternate serve sides

    • Serve from deuce and ad courts.
    • Adjust the forward route to the return direction.
  4. 10 patterns · 4 min

    Score ten patterns

    • Count target serve and deep swing volley together.
    • Aim for six complete patterns.

Remember

Three player cues

  • Serve, move, then split.
  • Read the return height early.
  • Swing volley deep before going for angle.

Avoid these

Common mistakes

  • Running forward without a split-step
  • Letting the high return drop
  • Using a full baseline backswing inside the court

Keep the same purpose

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Hand-feed the high ball after the serve and use the full deep court as the target.

Make it harder

Let the feeder vary return height so the player must choose swing volley, regular volley or groundstroke.

Keep it safe

Keep the forward landing zone clear and collect serves before the feeder’s side becomes crowded.
