- One soft football per pair
- Tennis rackets
- 4–8 flat cones
- Approximately 10 minutes of court time
Court blueprint
Set up the court
Pairs work in separate marked baseline spaces. One player gently moves a football to the forehand or backhand side while the other tracks and shadows the matching swing.
- 01Give each pair a marked space at least two racket-lengths wide.
- 02One player gently rolls or underarm passes the football to a side.
- 03The racket player shadows the matching stroke without contacting the football.

Remember
Three player cues
- Track, turn, then swing.

- Freeze the finish.
Avoid these
Common mistakes
- Swinging towards another pair
- Moving before seeing the football direction
- Losing balance to make a bigger swing
Keep the same purpose
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Remove rackets and rehearse only the turn and balanced finish.
Make it harder
Vary the pass speed and add two adjustment steps before the shadow swing.
Keep it safe
Use only gentle underarm passes, keep pairs two racket-lengths apart and never swing at the football.
