Step by step

Your 15-minute practice

  1. 0–3 min

    Feel the spin path

    • Make easy half-speed serves and listen for clean contact.
    • Keep the toss in the same comfortable window.
  2. 10 deuce serves · 4 min

    Shape the deuce slice

    • Serve ten balls towards the outer deuce target.
    • Count only serves that curve into the marked zone.
  3. 10 ad serves · 4 min

    Shape the ad slice

    • Repeat ten serves towards the outer ad target.
    • Use the same rhythm instead of forcing more spin.
  4. 11–15 min

    Complete the target set

    • Alternate sides and aim for five successes from each.
    • Reset fully after every miss.

Remember

Three player cues

  • Brush around the outside of the ball.
  • Keep the toss familiar.
  • Finish balanced into the court.

Avoid these

Common mistakes

  • Moving the toss too far sideways
  • Slowing the racket to manufacture spin
  • Chasing the sideline instead of the marked zone

Keep the same purpose

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Use the full service box and aim for 8 successful slice serves from 20 attempts.

Make it harder

Shrink each target to the outer third and land 12 of 20 serves without changing the toss.

Keep it safe

Keep the basket behind the baseline, serve a full set before collecting and check adjacent courts before every motion.
