Your 15-minute practice
0–3 min
Walk the four choices
- Rehearse both feed sides and both finishing targets.
- Return through centre after every shadow swing.
3–7 min
Use called patterns
- Ask the feeder to name the side and target before feeding.
- Hold the same preparation until contact.
7–11 min
Read the feed side
- Let the feeder choose the service box but continue calling the target.
- Move around the ball instead of reaching.
12 patterns · 4 min
Complete twelve patterns
- Score two successes in every combination.
- Reset after each miss.
Remember
Three player cues
- Read side, then choose target.
- Arrive outside the ball.
- Recover through centre.
Avoid these
Common mistakes
- Running directly at the short ball
- Showing the target with the backswing
- Forcing an angle from a low contact
Keep the same purpose
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Use only forehand feeds and alternate between a large deep target and the full crosscourt service box.
Make it harder
Remove the target call and play the point live after the player chooses the best finish.
Keep it safe
Keep all feeds inside the service boxes, clear short balls every set and do not start until the centre path is open.
